Whoa...summer stay a little bit longer! We can sense a change in the air we breathe. Changes in life can be wonderful and yet may sometimes cause apprehension. It is something we may fear or may welcome with open arms. To know that change is inevitable and nothing can stand still forever can prepare us to accept any changes that occur throughout a lifetime. We should always strive for continuous healthy growth no matter how long it takes or how many miles you have put into your soul. Be thankful that you have choices and may make changes for a better quality of life.

The Doctors say Coffee
After reading last week’s Dr. Oz and Dr. Roizen’s column on drinking and on choosing a caffeinated beverage such as coffee, I would like to add a few comments. I’m not a doctor, but that doesn’t keep me from finding out more information myself from other valuable resources. I even have a friend who calls me “Dr. Oz” (one of our family nicknames is “Oz”) ever since I helped her through some health issues. Anyways, getting back to caffeine (and this is just my opinion): Yes, caffeine may seem to help with many clarity and energy levels. And Dr. Oz and Dr. Roizen did say that people with certain health conditions shouldn’t use caffeine. But my research leads me to believe that anyone who has a major health condition should eliminate caffeine completely.
I also wonder why the doctors didn’t mention green tea or Yerba Maté as a caffeine choice? People should recognize why they feel a need for caffeine and determine if there is something else, in their diet or lifestyle, that they could use to prevent their memory lapses or lack of energy.
It is also important to consider the type of coffee you drink. Did you know that if you cannot tolerate gluten or wheat that most coffee may be intolerable to your body as well? It explains why sometimes when I drink coffee I don’t feel like myself. And it could also explain, for some people, experiencing diarrhea or constipation after consuming coffee. You may want to choose a coffee that it is of good quality, and it is best if the beans are a ground right before brewing. The same goes for teas, which are generally best if not prepackaged.
What about the water used with the caffeine? Good water is crucial because that can also alter the benefits of the coffee, tea, water or whatever else you may be drinking for that matter. Contaminants in water as well as the natural and added fluoride can wreak havoc on your body and mind. Coffee tends to have higher amounts of fluoride. Green tea and Matés tend to have less fluoride.
When you are drinking caffeine its crucial that you consume plenty of water, too.
Choose water that is purified via reverse osmosis water or other effective filters. There will be more information regarding our drinking water in later columns; it’s a topic that requires a lot of space. And, maybe Dr. Oz and Dr. Roizen were limited by space, too, when writing about caffeine. I hope my information on this topic has been helpful. And you may want to ask yourself this question:
Coffee, tea or me?
